Based on a successful Irish play by acclaimed writer Joseph O’Connor, and directed by Tamar Simon Hoffs, Red Roses and Petrol is a darkly comedic drama and a tour-de-force showcase for Malcolm McDowell as Enda Doyle, a university librarian, poet, and rascal who is the flawed patriarch of a dysfunctional family struggling to come to terms with his death and with one another. The Latest News on RR&P Stars

A Step Back In Time

More than three decades before playing enigmatic Irishman Enda Doyle in Red Roses and Petrol, Malcolm McDowell made his mark in director Stanley Kubrick’s 1971 film, A Clockwork Orange. Now, five completely remastered Kubrick films: 2001: A Space Odyssey, Eyes Wide Shut, Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, and A Clockwork Orange are being offered in a 10-disk collection set. Included is insightful bonus material and featurettes that take viewers inside the mind of the filmmaker. Additional interview footage includes McDowell paying tribute to the late filmmaker. Let The Music Play!

Red Roses and Petrol wouldn’t be the same without the memorable music that sets tone. The woman behind some of the tunes, Susanna Hoffs, performs with The Bangles — the 80s girl group with whom she had a string of hits — next month. The tour kicks off on Las Vegas’ famed Fremont Street on New Year’s Eve. Next they’re off to New Orleans where they will help celebrate Carnival at the Magical, Mystical Family Gras event along the Mississippi River from January 25-27, followed by a January 29 show at Baton Rouge’s legendary Varsity Theater in Louisiana. Finally, The Bangles are off to Austin, Texas, where they’ll sing at the famed La Zona Rosa venue on January 31. Visit www.thebangles.com for updated tour information.

Man Of Action

Looks like Red Roses and Petrol’s producers aren’t the only ones this side of the pond who’ve become aware of star Max Beesley’s talent. Rumor has it that mesmerizing British actor has been cast in the upcoming season of FOX’s 24! The series, which postponed its return due to ongoing writers strike, will eventually be back with day seven of the ongoing saga of counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer. Fox reps were unable to confirm the casting info at this time.

Goin’ Green!

Goin’ Green!

In order to make the premiere of Red Roses and Petrol a success, the film’s distributor, World Wide Motion Pictures Corporation, is reaching out to the Irish-American community in Los Angeles, Boston, New York, and Chicago. Irish pubs in each of these cities have generously offered their support of the film and will be helping to market it via distributing post cards, placing advertising materials on tables, and even reaching out to customers via mailing lists during the month of March. Names of the pubs will be forthcoming so that Red Roses and Petrol supporters can come out and celebrate the movie along with St. Patrick’s Day.

 Clockwork Orange
He may play a sympathetic character in Red Roses and Petrol, but ever since his turn starring as the infamous Alex DeLarge in Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, Malcolm McDowell has spent most of the last 30 years in more villainous roles. Want to see the film that caused such uproar in the UK upon its release that it wasn’t shown in theaters again until after the director’s death in 1999? Check out the newly released, “The Stanley Kubrick Collection,” a 10-disc CD set of Kubrick’s five most famous films, including A Clockwork Orange. McDowell is featured in bonus material paying tribute to the late man. To purchase, visit:
